Webinar: Biogas and Combined Heat and Power

February 28, 2017, 12:00 PM CST

The U.S. DOE Southwest and Pacific CHPTAPs invite city & county staff and private wastewater treatment facility (WWTF) and landfill operators to attend a free webinar on biogas CHP project development at these types of facilities.
Many wastewater treatment plants have existing on-site uses for biogas (e.g., heating digesters, drying biosolids), making CHP a great offset for these thermal loads. Also, many states have set goals to make use of biogas as a direct replacement of natural gas to generate electricity and recover thermal energy providing another potential source of revenue for munis.
Speakers representing biogas CHP installations in the County of Los Angeles, City of Albuquerque, and City of Fort Worth will share their experiences implementing their CHP as well as stakeholder reactions, economic impacts and lessons learned.

Speakers:
• Mark McDannel, Energy Manager, Solid Waste Management Division, Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County will discuss the District’s experience implementing the 22MW CHP system installed at the Joint Water Pollution Control Plant (JWPCP) and plans for CHP deployment at other new and/or existing county facilities.
• Charles Leder, Manager – Plant Operations Division, Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority will describe Albuquerque’s CHP system deployed at the Southside Water Reclamation Plant.
• Ana Julia Pena-Tijerina, PhD, PE, VCWRF Technical Services, City of Fort Worth will describe the City’s CHP system installed at the Village Creek Water Reclamation Facility that benefited Fort Worth’s goal to establish Village Creek WRF as a Net Zero Energy Facility.
• Gavin Dillingham PhD, U.S. DOE Southwest CHP TAP Director, HARC will provide an overview of the DOE’s biogas CHP experience and moderate the session.
