Please join the Energy Forum for a discussion on climate change and urban initiatives. Bruce Schlein, Director in Citi's Community Reinvestment Act Business Strategy group, and Micah Kotch, Managing Director of URBAN-X, will explore financing schemes and startup innovations to address climate change. Dr. Carolyn Kissane, NY Energy Forum board member and Academic Director at NYU's Center for Global Affairs, will moderate the discussion. 

SPEAKERS:

Bruce Schlein

Bruce Schlein is Director in Citi's Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) Business Strategy group where he develops clean energy solutions for low and moderate income households and communities. He recently transitioned from Citi's Alternative Energy Finance (AEF) group in Capital Markets Origination. Prior to AEF Bruce served as Director of Corporate Sustainability, working with Citi business and operations units to identify and develop solutions for emerging environmental and social issues and opportunities. Previously he worked as a sustainability specialist for Bechtel on petrochemical and civil projects in China and Romania, and for international development agencies including Save the Children, Catholic Relief Services in Bosnia Herzegovina and the U.S. Peace Corps in Papua New Guinea. Bruce is a graduate of Cornell University and holds a Masters in International Affairs from Johns Hopkins Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). Bruce also serves on the Board of the New York City Energy Efficiency Corporation (NYCEEC).

Micah Kotch

Micah Kotch serves as the Managing Director of URBAN-X by MINI and Urban Us. URBAN-X is the accelerator for startups reimagining city life. Before joining URBAN-X, Micah served as the Director of NY Prize and Strategic Advisor for Innovation at NYSERDA. He also served as Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering Micah served, where he launched NYC’s first sponsored tech incubator and the Urban Future Lab - helping emerging companies address climate, energy and resiliency opportunities. Micah has a track record of delivering results for utilities, government agencies, Fortune 500 companies, educational institutions and startups.  He is a core national faculty member for the National Science Foundation’s i-CORPS program which focuses on commercializing federally-funded research.  Micah is a Brooklyn native (where he lives with his family)  and a proud board member for Green City Force.

Carolyn Kissane

Carolyn Kissane serves as the Academic Director of the graduate program in Global Affairs at the Center for Global Affairs and is a Clinical Associate Professor where she teaches graduate level courses examining the geopolitics of energy, comparative energy politics, energy, environment and resource security, a regional course focusing on Central Asia.

She is Coordinator of the Energy and Environment concentration at the Center and is faculty adviser to the Energy Policy International Club. Dr. Kissane was awarded the esteemed NYU Excellence in Teaching Award in 2007, the SCPS Award for Teaching Excellence in 2009, and nominated for the NYU-wide Distinguished Teaching Award in 2008, 2009 and 2016.

She was named Breaking Energy's Top Ten New York Women in Energy and Top Ten Energy Communicator. She hosts Fueling our Future, an energy series she moderates which brings in energy and environment experts for conversation and debate. She serves on the boards of the New York Energy Forum, New York Energy Week, and the Clean Start Advisory Board. Dr. Kissane received her Ph.D. from Columbia University.
