NASEO Webinar: The National Academies on The Role of Net Metering in the Evolving Electricity System

February 20, 2024, 2:00 - 3:00 PM ET

Net metering is a billing mechanism that provides consumers with compensation on their utility bills for excess distributed energy generation (for example rooftop solar) that feeds into the grid. The National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine led a Congressionally mandated study for the U.S. Department of Energy that examined the medium-to-long term impacts of net metering on consumers and the electric grid. The study looked at net metering planning and operating techniques, business models, technology developments, and rate designs. This webinar will provide information on the study for State Energy Offices interested in better understanding the role that net metering can play in advancing clean energy, equity, and resilience across the country.
