DESCRIPTION:

We’ll quickly review material from the 7/14/2021 version of this webinar, examine where we are now in our ambitions for mitigating Climate Change, focusing on the efforts underway in Mass, with some context from other states. We’ll introduce the concepts of the Carbon Clock and the Social Cost of Carbon. We will briefly review what Mass. is doing to realize the ambitious CO2 reduction mandated by the Climate Act of 2021, etc., including changes in building code, new home incentives, and a market-based mechanism to manipulate fossil fuel cost. We’ll review examples of the kind of ‘2050 compatible’ buildings needed to realize MA GHG reduction ambitions, and the 1,000,000 home all-electric retrofit challenge. Finally, a brief review of how a 1978 home could be made to be ‘net zero,’ with energy use data.
