A Home Energy Rating is a detailed audit of a residential building as defined by the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) to calculate the Energy Rating Index (ERI).  These ratings have been performed on homes for over 25 years.

The rater utilizes a performance-based software accredited by RESNET for the ERI.  To become accredited, rating software must pass a suite of accuracy tests.  With multiple rating software platforms available to the industry, the issue of ERI consistency has become critical.

This presentation explores the history of the consistency issue, software accreditation tests and how they play into inconsistency, and how RESNET is solving the consistency issue.
