NASEO-NARUC GEB Working Group Webinar: Emission Aspects of Demand Flexibility

June 4, 2020, 3:00 - 4:30 PM ET

Emissions rates for greenhouse gases and criteria air pollutants from the electricity grid vary over time as the blend of generation is adjusted to meet demand.  Flexible management of power demand and of onsite generation and energy storage affects a building’s or facility’s emissions impacts.  GEBs can be managed to reduce reliance on high-emitting generation and increase utilization of low-emitting units, including variable renewable generation.  This becomes increasingly important as growing numbers of jurisdictions and private companies adopt emission policies and goals.  This webinar examined tools and approaches to better understand and manage the emission impacts of buildings. This webinar also included a discussion of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) AVoided Emissions and geneRation Tool (AVERT) and WattTime’s Automated Emissions Reduction tool as well as expert perspective from a former state air quality director with the Regulatory Assistance Project.

Presenters:

  • Rodney Sobin, NASEO
  • Colby Tucker, U.S. EPA
  • Henry Richardson, WattTime
  • Nancy Seidman, Regulatory Assistance Project
