U.S. and global stocks of refined petroleum products – gasoline, heating oil / diesel, jet fuel – remain well below five-year averages and will continue to present significant supply and price challenges in the months ahead. There also remain geopolitical issues and global demand concerns given low oil reserves in Asia, Europe, and the United States. To help inform States Energy Offices and provide an opportunity to share state actions and messaging, NASEO will host a second Petroleum Products Supply, Price Analysis, and Mitigation Call on Tuesday, August 18, 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. ET.
This call will feature expert remarks alongside a discussion on pricing, messaging, and potential actions to help address price impacts in key areas such as diesel fuel for agriculture, trucking, and local government vehicles, as well as preparing for the home heating season. Among the indicators we will discuss are distillate stocks (heating oil and diesel) which are 12 percent below the five-year average, and refinery utilization at a historically high at 96.5 percent – this level of utilization leaves little room for unplanned outages. Developing a shared understanding of petroleum flows and mitigation options now will help inform decisions to support home heating customers, agriculture, trucking, schools, and other businesses in the months ahead.
